കേരള ചരിത്രത്തിലെ ഏറ്റവും ഭീകരമായ പ്രളയ ദുരിതത്തില്‍ നിന്നും കരകയറാനുള്ള കേരളീയ ജനതയുടെ പരിശ്രമം ലോകമെമ്പാടുമുള്ള പ്രവാസി മലയാളികളുടെ കൂടി സഹായ സഹകരണങ്ങളോടെ നടന്ന് വരികയാണ്. പ്രവാസി മലയാളികള്‍ തങ്ങളുടെ ജന്മഭൂമിയുടെ ദുരിതം തുടച്ച് മാറ്റാന്‍ വളരെ മികച്ച പിന്തുണയാണ് ഇത് വരെ നല്‍കിയിരിക്കുന്നത്. ലോകത്തിന്‍റെ പല ഭാഗത്തുമുള്ള മലയാളികളും മലയാളി സംഘടനകളും ബിസിനസ് സ്ഥാപനങ്ങളുമെല്ലാം ഇതിനായി നടത്തിയ ശ്രമങ്ങള്‍ വലിയ അളവില്‍ വിജയം കണ്ടിരിക്കുകയാണ്. ഈ സാഹചര്യത്തിലാണ് കേരള സര്‍ക്കാര്‍ തങ്ങളുടെ പ്രതിനിധികളെ ലോകത്തിന്‍റെ എല്ലാ ഭാഗങ്ങളിലേക്കും അയച്ച് പ്രവാസി മലയാളികളും മറ്റ് സംഘടനകളും ശേഖരിച്ച പണം മുഖ്യമന്ത്രിയുടെ ദുരിതാശ്വാസ നിധിയിലേക്ക് സമാഹരിക്കുവാന്‍ തീരുമാനമെടുത്തത്.
ഈ തീരുമാനത്തിന്റെ ഭാഗമായി കേരളത്തിന്‍റെ സഹകരണ, ടൂറിസം, ദേവസ്വം വകുപ്പ് മന്ത്രിയായ ശ്രീ. കടകംപള്ളി സുരേന്ദ്രന്‍ യുകെ സന്ദര്‍ശനത്തിന് എത്തിച്ചേരുകയാണ്. മന്ത്രിയോടൊപ്പം ടൂറിസം ഡയരക്ടര്‍ ബാലകിരണ്‍ ഐഎഎസും യുകെയില്‍ എത്തുന്നുണ്ട്. ഈ മാസം 19, 20, 21 തീയതികളിലാണ് മന്ത്രിയുടെ യുകെ സന്ദര്‍ശനം. ലണ്ടന്‍, ബര്‍മിംഗ്ഹാം, മാഞ്ചസ്റ്റര്‍ എന്നീ മൂന്നു നഗരങ്ങള്‍ കേന്ദ്രീകരിച്ച് ആയിരിക്കും മന്ത്രി പ്രവാസി മലയാളികളെയും സംഘടനാ പ്രതിനിധികളെയും കാണുന്നത്. ദുരിതാശ്വാസ നിധിയിലേക്ക് ഉള്ള സംഭാവനകള്‍ ഈ ദിവസങ്ങളില്‍ ആളുകള്‍ക്ക് മന്ത്രിയെ നേരിട്ട് കണ്ട് ഏല്‍പ്പിക്കാവുന്നതാണ്.

Greetings from Kerala.
Let me at the very outset, express my pride and gratitude for the immense contribution made by Non-Resident Keralites to the economic development of Kerala. The huge remittance made by NRKs is the backbone of Kerala economy, and has remained so for the last three to four decades.
As you know, this August, Kerala witnessed one of the worst floods it has ever seen in a century. It wrecked havoc across the State, destroying homes and lives. However, Kerala is now slowly getting back on her feet, thanks to the help and support extended by millions from across the world, especially NRKs.
Today, we are in the process of rebuilding Kerala, step by step. It’s a long and arduous process, taking into account the massive extent of destruction. But we are sure that together, we will be able to rebuild a better and stronger Kerala. We look forward to your continued support and co-operation in this regard.
The Government, under the leadership of Hon. Chief Minister, has drawn out an action plan called Navakeralam, to initiate the rebuilding process. As part of this, ‘Interactive Sessions’ are being planned with Malayali Associations in countries where there is significant Malayali diaspora. The objective of these sessions include consultation towards rebuilding and reconstruction of flood ravaged Kerala, explore the possibility of sourcing technical expertise available with the overseas Malayalis for reconstruction activities, besides seeking investments into the proposed projects.
With this objective, I will be in United Kingdom from 19th to 21st October to meet up with various Malayali associations. However, due to time constraints, we’ll be able to hold sessions only in a few places and I hope NRKs living elsewhere in UK will also make it to these sessions.
